Hunter Swoop | English

Top Left corner
- Dark grey clouds cover the sky making it look like a thunderstorm is about to happen, a lonely mountain peak can be seen from the distance.

Top Right corner
- The bright sky covered in colourful clouds reflect the light of the glowing sun behind it.

Bottom
- Murky waters can be seen from the edge of the bridge, no life can be seen from the dark and unclear waters of the lake.

Middle
- As I walk slowly toward the end of the bridge, I see a girl with long dark hair sitting alone, not a single sound can be heard apart from her breath, I ran and ran towards her and before I could get to the end, she looked me in the eye and jumped into the mirror-like lake, though unclear, still reflected a sight of green mountains so tall.

The Hunters Swoop | English

- Top left corner of the image
Dark trees and branches cover the background making it look like a dark black hole.

- Top right corner of the image
As the dead trees disappear into the mist and fog, Dark trees stand tall as if leading the ones behind.

- Bottom part of the image
The mirror-like lake reflects a beautiful yet frightening sight of dark dead trees, its leaves scattered as if they were being set free, another world can be seen once I looked in.

- Middle part of the image
As I walk through the misty and foggy forest, still frightened by what I have seen, I was greeted by a glistening lake reflecting all of the darkness behind me. I have thought my journey was rough yet now that I am standing here I have learned to realize that the hardships I've been through have been worth the fear when I see such I mesmerizing sight.

Similes and Metaphors | English

Highlight the simile in each:
My bedroom was as black as a cave in the depths of the earth.
The classroom after school became as noisy as a gaggle of gabby geese.
The cat capered along the fence top like a tightrope walker on the hire wire
My anger crashed into me like waves against the shore.

Complete each simile:
The cloth was as black as coal.
The wet ball was as slippery as an eel.
My little sister is as playful as a kitten.
The top of this table is as smooth as silk.
I’ve been as busy as a bee.
The lamb is as white as snow.

simile or a metaphor?
As slippery as an eel. simile
Arnie was a man-mountain. metaphor
He was a lion in battle. metaphor
She is as pretty as a picture. simile
The striker was a goal machine. metaphor
The torch lit up the room as if the sun had already risen early. simile
The moon was a misty shadow. metaphor
My friend has a face like thunder. simile

The Hunter Swoop | English

A Sky so cloudy, A mountain can barely be seen from behind.

Ice covers the mountains, so cold yet so bright as the snow reflects the sun's light.

A sheet of frost covers the road, clearly slippery from the ice. streaks of tire tracks from cars driving left their mark on the thin layer of ice.

everything disappears when it reaches the end of the horizon to a breathtaking view of mountains so cold and bright.

Starfish Poem | Social Studies

THE STARFISH POEM
Once upon a time, there was a wise man
who used to go to the ocean
to do his writing.
He had a habit of walking
on the beach
before he began his work.
One day he was walking along
the shore.
As he looked down the beach,
he saw a human
figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think
of someone who would
dance to the day.
So he began to walk faster
to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw
that it was a young man
and the young man wasn't dancing,
but instead, he was reaching
down to the shore,
picking up something
and very gently throwing it
into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out,
"Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused,
looked up and replied,
"Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked,
why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out.
And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that
there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it.
You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the sea,
past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."

The main message of this poem
- A single person can make such a significant change to our environment and if people start making small differences in their everyday life they would be helping more and more. other people might doubt that just throwing a single piece of rubbish won't make a difference but if more people started doing it, those small changes can turn into something big.

Crash Course Literacy - Brain dead teen | English

What makes this video convincing?
- The acting makes the video convincing and having "professional" people on set make it more realistic, they also had people protest which just adds to the realism.

    Who published this video?
    - A channel that creates fake news articles called The onion.

How are teenagers portrayed in this clip?
      - Teenagers are portrayed as lazy and brain dead because of their phones.

Why has the director cast them this way?
        - The director cast teenagers this way to make fun of the stereotype that all teenagers in this generation are lazy and anti-social because of their phones.

In whose interest is this text?
          - The director probably intended for adults/parents to watch this video and have a laugh.

Who is real in this text?
            - All of the actors are real but their characters aren't.

What social realities does this video portray?
              - The stereotype does relate to some teenagers in today's generation and the protesting in the video relates to real news as well.

              Alkaline Metals

              What is an Alkaline Metal?
              - Example of Alkaline Metals are Lithium, sodium and potassium, these metals are highly reactive and form strongly alkaline hydroxides.

Where are they on the P.Table?
              - It is in Group 1 of the periodic table which means it only has one electron.

What Reaction did we do yesterday?
              Observations
              - As soon as the Alkali metal (Sodium) was dropped in the water, it started smoking, then after a few seconds
we saw fire and after that, it exploded.
              Reactants
              - Alkali Metal (Sodium) and Water (H20)
              Product
              - Sodium Oxide and Hydrogen (Na2O + H2)
              Chemical equations
              - Na + H2O =Na2O + H2

Why do these metals react this way?
              - Alkali Metals are Highly Reactive and the reason for that is because these metals only have one electron in their outer shell.
